The title Gateway is a reference to the hymn Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow which is used in this piece to the tune Old Hundredth. This music is a call to a heavenly father that is a Gateway to heaven. As the fanfare opening would suggest, it is a call out of proclamation. The music takes a journey through various twists and turns before coming to a final climax that explodes in a united opening up of the heavens – therefore entering that Gateway.
