Desire

Tone Poem

Desire

The premise of this piece is built around the aspects of DESIRE. The emotions and images depicted within the piece are that of imperfect people... All of us. The music doesn’t necessarily take us on a journey of these desires, but rather brings them into our minds when we least expect it.

Starting out there is the Desire theme (a fragment of the melody). It builds to the climax of us proclaiming it is our Desire to serve the Lord. Suddenly our temptation takes hold. It isn’t that strong, but it is persistent and sneaky. Weaving its way through everything. It almost takes control of us. But we remember what our ultimate desire is.

The melody is played in a prayerful almost silent way. Many of our cries to Christ are. We continue to cry out “Lord I give You my heart, I give You my soul. I live for you alone. Every breath that I take, every moment I'm awake. Lord, have Your way in me!”

“Move Holy Spirit. Move in my heart?” Is quietly referenced in the closing moments of this middle section.

We’ve committed to him. We’ve prayed a powerful prayer. Yet, our good intentions turn selfish and of the world. This is destructive. This rips apart relationships and pushes people away. We continue to hear “Move Holy Spirit” – interrupted by ugly, fierce, desires that are all around. Yet...We have the choice, to repent it all, recommit, and proclaim.

The hum is the decision moment for us...What are we going to do?

It closes with a united proclamation:

Lord, I give You my heart
I give You my soul
I live for you alone
And every breath that I take
Every moment I'm awake
Lord, have Your way in me
