Break Out

Euphonium Duet

Break Out

Break Out was written for the Melbourne Staff Band at the request of bandmaster Kenneth Waterworth to be featured in their 125th Anniversary season. The piece is built around the Army tune Lift up the Banner and is treated in a semi-variations style. The middle section of the piece is based around the contemporary song Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone. This is where the overall picture of the music takes it shape. The words for Lift up the Banner are talking about fighting a salvation war, winning the world for God, and then going to our home above, and the essence of that is breaking the chains of slavery to the world – But played in this joyful way. As the music leads into Amazing Grace, again the words talk about the grace of God setting us free – Breaking out by the power of His unending love. In the final section we see the return of Lift up the Banner. Salvation soldiers fighting on, To God the world will belong. Break Out is a story of what every Salvationists mission should be, and is a joyful reminder of Gods love for us.
