The word High-Octane is often used to describe someone or something that is operating at a highly skilled, powerful and dynamic level. The meaning in this case can be both for the band as well as the composition itself. Efficiency, ability and precision go hand in hand with one working alongside the other. This music simply displays these three characteristics throughout in both melodic and rhythmic fashion. The opening fanfare motif, which is later used as a rhythmic drive throughout, represents the efficiency – often only one or two notes, but is fragmented and morphed in an efficient and entertaining way. Ability is showcased with the obvious technical runs heard from beginning to end. Precision is presented within this melodic theme that is hinted at early on, and in its full form near the end of the work. All these elements come together, all these players come together and create a performance that is High-Octane.
